Replacing Duck Key's Bridges
Dear Interested Party:
Due to your known interest in the local transportation infrastructure, you are invited to participate in the Public Alternatives Meeting for the Duck Key Bridges. This meeting is an important component of the permitting process.
The proposed alternatives for addressing the deficiencies of the Duck KeyBridges will be discussed.
As part of its public outreach and efforts to involve interested parties, Monroe County would like to obtain your input on potential impacts the proposed alternatives may have to the community.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through the US Coast Guard (USCG), is the lead federal agency for review of potential effects on navigation and on the human environment, including historic properties, pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended (42 U.S.C. 4321 et seq.), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), as amended (16 U.S.C. 470 et seq.) and the General Bridge Act of 1946.
As background information for this project, the four bridges providing access to the individual islands associated with Duck Key were determined eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) by the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO). The four bridges have exceeded their design service life and exhibit ongoing deterioration of the bridge elements and increased undermining of the substructure. The decorative railings, vertical profile and typical section of the bridges are substandard and present a safety hazard for vehicular and pedestrian users.
The purpose of this meeting is to display and discuss alternatives for theDuck Key Bridges. There will be project boards on display, a short presentation and a question and answer session.
