Crime Watch Unit Being Formed on Duck Key
The Duck Key Security District Advisory Board (DKSDAB) and the Monroe County Sheriff Office are establishing a Crime Watch Unit on Duck Key. The Crime Watch Unit is being spearheaded by DKSDAB and coordinated by Duck Key resident and Monroe County Sheriff Office Detective Scott Ward. The goal is to get several volunteers from each island on Duck Key to do walk arounds or drive arounds on their island and to take notice of any suspicious activities. If you are interested in participating as a Crime Watch Member please contact DKSDAB Chairperson Sherry Popham at 305-393-0657. Detective Ward has provided us with some information that will help you become more observant to suspicious activities in your area, what to look for in making a description of a suspect or their vehicle and a home security checklist that will help you keep you and your property safe. We have posted this information on the D.K.P.O.A. website in the Documents tab in the left margin under Grime Watch Information. Some of these documents can also be filled out after you witness a criminal act, suspicious person or vehicle while the information is still fresh in your mind. A good suspect description or tag number are invaluable to law enforcement in capturing and convicting criminals. A special thank you goes out to Sherry Popham and the board of the DKSDAB along with Detective Scott Ward for putting in the extra effort to help keep Duck Key a safe community.
